YhbJ(RapZ) is an adaptor protein that recruits GlmZ to the catalytic domain of RNase E; GlmY is an anti-adaptor decoy sRNA that binds YhbJ(RapZ) competitively with GlmZ, protecting it from degradation (Göpel, 2013). Increased GlmZ-Hfq leads to the cleavage of the glmUS mRNA at the glmU stop codon, upregulating GlmS synthesis; YhbJ(RapZ) negatively regulates glmZ (Kalamorz, 2007). The GlmY sRNA indirectly activates glmS mRNA by antagonizing the YhbJ(RapZ)-dependent GlmZ inactivating processing (Urban, 2007).
