Hcp is in an operon and associated with the Hcr oxidoreductase. It is not known if Hcp is a physiologically relevant substrate but Hcp can degrade it in vivo. Hcp is also called fuscoredoxin or prismane protein. Hcp is expressed anaerobically with nitrate or nitrite as terminal electron acceptors and may be involved in metabolizing byproducts of nitrogen metabolism, which might include hydroxylamine.
