The bcsQ' domestication in-frame stop codon pseudogene defect in K-12 strain W3110 has been repaired, restoring cellulose production, colony morphology, biofilm architecture, and the divergent bcs operons' functions to a presumably wildtype status (Serra, 2013). Salmonella BcsG was erroneously predicted to be an endoglucanase based on a match to an unnannotated gene downstream of the Cellulomonas uda endoglucanase gene in Genbank M36503 (Solano, 2002). The presence of an in-frame stop codon mutation in the bcsQ' gene abolishes cellulose production and bcs divergent operon function in E. coli K-12.
