IS4

Description:

IS4 is a 1426 bp transposable insertion sequence present in single copy at 97' (Klaer, 1981).
IS4 has one open reading frame, insG, involved in transposase function.

IS4 has an 18 bp imperfect inverted repeat at its ends,
1-18 (4501538-4501521, TAATGCCGATCAGTTAAG)
is the reverse complement (16/18) of
1408-1426 (4500130-4500113, CTTAACTGACTGGCATTA) , which includes the TAA stop codon of insG.

Details:

IS4 can generate a 12 bp target site duplication.

E. coli K-12 strain MG1655 contains one instance of IS4.

ISZ' is an IS4-like defective IS element with imperfect terminal inverted repeats very similar to IS4.
